Kodiak Island Bears

Thought you might want to see this. These bears are on Kodiak Island feeding on a dead whale. The geologist that took the pic said there were as many on the hills just up from the beach.

Two thoughts:

The bear meat probably would taste awful.

I couldn't consentrate for the feeling that there is probably another bear behind me I hadn't seen.

Cool pic.

Guy need a real real big set of nuts to wander into that mess with a trad bow. Maybe by zodiac I'd consider it. Cool picture.

good to see the population is doing well out there. Wonder if they fight over food?

Heck they're distracted, the one time it might be a little safer to take a straggler. Very cool pick.

That is why deer hunting on Kodiak can be so exciting.  If not on the whale carcass, they are on the salmon streams or looking for deer and they don't care who killed it!!

I'll bet the air smells sweet on that stretch of beach. What a RUSH it would be to stumble into that on a stalk........

I think spear gun would be my weapon of choice. On second thaught I have a .458 Lott that needs a good workout.

Leathernock,

No thanks, my nuts are still attached to my brain at this point. I have no desire to wade through head high alders with a stick bow searching for brown bears while they are searching for me as well. I'd much rather hunt elephant and cape buff with my stickbow, looking for an overweight and slow hunting partner (preferably one that runs slower than me) interested??

id be up for it...if there was one! might need a pretty full quiver for that lot though.

pff .458 lott give me a 600 nitro express double that should slow it down some, and if not at least the recoil would knock me silly and i would'nt feel the mauling

amazing pic thanks for sharing

Dave we need to find a big landowner in Mozambique that would let us chase some buff with the stick bow
There is more to the Hunt.. then the Horns
