I went to the old museum of natural History in Paris and took some pics for the traveling bowhunter , looking at thoses animals i was thinking that you need to be brave to try i only with a bow an arrow !

Slipping an arrow into the goodies would be pretty tough, but can be done with the right setup.

I now know why you need a heavy bow weight and the correct arrow to penatrate a body built like a "Tank"...Man lot's of protection on a Buff...Thanks for sharing those pics to help edjucate those that are able to hunt them...Keefer's <><

After posting above I went back and looked at those ribs again and never knew Buffs had that center ridge of bones up on the back...Can you imagaine haveing an "All You Can You Rib's Feast" and share a camp meal with about 100 of your tradgang friends over a campfire eating one of those fella's? Thats great, very interesting. I always heard that bison ribs overlap each other. These skeletons seem to disprove that. Even the African and Asian appear to have a healthy space between them. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for sharing these pictures.VERY COOL!
I may be wrong but I believe the bison to be a cow or young bull.Although I am no bison expert.I do wish I had taken pictures of the carcus of the cow I killed.
Again great pictures!They realy show how massive those Cape and Water Buffalo are.

Interesting as always i love this kind of thing. Thanks for putting up the pics

The Cape buff is done well and from my experience its accurate.

The Water buff is good but it is not totally accurate if you have a closer look at the pics you will see there are 2 Water buff there, the one in the background is much more accurate, the rib spacing on one photographed is not correct, they are not that far apart.

As for the Bison it looks like a younger animal or female, but non the less its clear to see its just not in the same ball park as the 2 Buffalo.

These are from a Mature Water Buffalo Bull

Shoulder and the 3 ribs you are most likely to hit

Note the few holes in the Shoulder Blade, those where from testing the new VPA Penetrator 2 blades, yip through it like butter and still sharp. Also Note if you hit a live animal in that shoulder blade you screwed up

Side profile and thickness of the middle Rib at the height a good shot would hit

good quality head, heavy arrow and well tuned set-up will punch through this even if you broadhead hits the rib horizontal and dead center.

here's a look at your slight and medium quartering away angle. I strongly advise my clients against this shot, the probability of deflection is very very high. Iv seen too many a Bull lost and wounded as a result of that shot.

perfectly Broadside or hard quartering is the shot.
