Red & Black plaid sure feels strange......
« on: November 29, 2007, 04:53:00 PM »
Getting home from work early these past 4 nights have found me bowhunting about a mile from my home...in the rain. Although I'm wearing camo pants, I just feel "out of place" and "naked" wearing my red/black Anorak. Rifle season is still open here and I know its for safety reasons BUT I JUST DON'T LIKE IT! Anyone else out there bowhunt during the gun season?

Joe, Yep I'm out there with the gunners as well. I have a blaze orange vest that I wear while walking in or out of the woods. I was hunting primarily from the ground before the gun season but am sitting in a treestand until late bow season begins.  Fred

Yep,I hunt the rifle season but on private land.  I wear the orange in and out but not while on stand because I know the neighbours and where and how they hunt.  In the few public forests around here I wouldn't think about going in without covered head to toe in super bright orange.

Here in Illinois we can't bowhunt during shotgun season. It stinks! So I'm out with the rest of the pumpkin army with my muzzleloader. I feel like I'm cheating on my girlfriend each time I hang up my gun and look at that purty recurve sitting there all by her lonesome. We'll be reunited as soon as I have to quit wearing this sweet tater lookin' suit.

I do too, Joe.  I wear an orange vest to my stand, whether it is on the ground or in a tree, then take it off.  I also do my best to stay away from areas where there are a lot of hunters, and if I see a hunter I pull the vest out and hold it up until it is acknowledged.

Plaid makes me look fat. That's why I prefer ASAT to break up my outline  :goldtooth:

I also hunt with the bangers in the woods... stay high and wear something others can see so they don't shoot you...

I have Joe, I wear an orange vest in and out, when I'm seated I'm all camo. I kinda wish deer season was over I'm ready to camo up and stalk some bunnies and squirrels.

Wear an orange vest in and out and then wrap it around the tree above my head while on my stand. Had two decent bucks within 12 yards of me too!

Been doing it for years. Here it is Blaze Orange only! And you must leave it on or if your lucky you only get a ticket. I do not under stand why some bowhunters feel they can remove it when they are sitting still or in a tree. Then why can't the gun hunters do the same thing. I guess I just would like to live to hunt another day.

This is my late season camo! It works great, and I wear it because it's warm. Never had any problems blending in yet.

I know it doesn't have the right feel, yet years of gun hunting taught me it doesn't matter to the deer.   They don't see the orange.

I don't gun hunt anymore, but when I bow hunt and the guns are out, I leave it on.  To me it is a safety issue like a safety harness, don't leave home without it.

I've taken a few nice bucks during rifle season with the red/black but after running around the woods since September in ASAT....just don't seem natural!
