A Stash of Hickory
« on: November 29, 2007, 07:49:00 PM »
Just got back from a local hardwood lumber mill. A while back I had shown him one of the flat bows made from one of the boards purchase from him before.  We had agreed to meet this evening so he could cut a pignut hickory butt log into what I was looking for.  After analysing what best could be gleaned from it the yeild was at least 3 slabs, and possibly a 4th, that may whittle down to some good self bows and 3 good 1"x7" boards that were cut with the fiber/grain structure.  The reason to keep the fiber intact for the purpose of building better quality board bows.  The rest of the lumber from the log will go into a cattle chute I'm needing to make.  When it came time to pay up he said he would not only call it even but would, also, give me a price break when I pick up the rest of the lumber for the chute cattle if I were to make him a bow from this.  I think I can do that.
Excuse me while I go out to unload the trailer.
