1960 64" Bear Kodiak

I have a 1960 Bear Kodiak 64" 51@28". I was wondering what these bows are worth? I know the 1959 Yak is a very desirable bow-where does the 1960 64" stand in the Bear collecting circle's?

Are you sure it's a 1960? What color coin? It's not a K.Special is it?

The coin is silver in color,maybe aluminum? It's a 64" kodiak model. It also has the leather wrapped grip. Brown glass on the back of the bow,lighter brown glass on the back. White/black overlays/tips. It is one smooth and quick shooting bow!

Bear used Aluminum coins in 1960-61 and 1963-72. In 60-61 the 'Bear' was flat. In 63-72 the 'Bear' was rounded. *Editing my post for a mistake: 56" -64" from 1955-'60.64" length was offered from '55-'60 and then again in 1966. I've been looking for one cause that's the year ('66) I graduated high school and never got it for graduation present.      
The serial # will tell if it's a '66. From '65-'69 the first single digit is the year of the bow. (8Z1234 = 1968)
The "K" serial numbers started in 1970.

BEAR DID MAKE A 64" kODIAK THAT YEAR. Althouth the Kodiak is best knows as a 60" bow.

They aslo made the KODIAK SPECIAL which was in 66" length.

The '60 Kodiak on eBAy right now is $119.00 and stil lgoing.  I would think that the 64" would bring more because there are probably fewer of them available.

An old recurve is whorth what someone will pay for it.  No more, no less.  What brings $100.00 today may bring twice that a month later when different bidders are looking at it.  Good luck if you decide to try to sell it

Thanks for the info. I emailed a Bear collector/seller who does quite a bit of business on Ebay and asked for info on this bow. He told me the bow is very desirable to collectors and being that it is a 1960 64" Kodiak in a good hunting weight-he said the bow should bring $1000 to $1500 in the auction format,if it's in good condition! Whoa!   :eek:  That's a lot of beans!

Keep in mind that even though a knowledgeable collector has put a price on the bow, it will all depend on when you put it on ebay, who and how many people are bidding on it, and if there are any other bows like it at the time.  Your best bet is to try to put it on ebay when it is the only one like it at the time.  Less competition against your auction.

I have seen people put bows on eBAY and were shocked at how much they got for them.  At other times I have people get really disappointed.  It is all timing.  Also, I would never have two bows up for auction at the same time.  Why compete against yourself.

JL...I also have a 1960 64" Bear Kodiak, 50# @ 28". There is a guy in Washington (Don Ward aka Bowdoc). He refinished my bow, and knows alot about the older Bear bows. If you are interested, I can look up his e-mail and send it to you. My Kodiak has reversed limb colors, making it very rare. I was quoted one time that it would bring 2 to 3 thousand at a auction. But I don't think I would ever get rid of it.

p.s. --- I think I've found an old original "Nels Grumley Deer Slayer" -- the great, great, great, great, grandpaw of the 50's  60's Kodiaks.
