Smithwick bows were produced by S&J Archery. M.R. Smithwick and Tom Jennings started the company in 1952. They were custom bows, but what I call "bench made," using a knife making term. That is, all hand made, but several individuals envolved in the process. Jennings was the boss, but prominent archers Lou Shine and Bob Blair also worked with him. They made several models and were quite popular on the field and target circuit.
Tom Jennings penned the column "Tackle Topics" for TAM, traversing from recurves/longbows into the compound age. Tom provided his story in archery in one of his columns published in the February 1964 issue of "The Archers Magazine."
