Bear Alaskan
« on: June 22, 2005, 11:16:00 AM »
I just got a Bear Alaskan. 43# Double shelf. It looks real nice and looks to be shootable. I judt need a string.

Any idea what year these were made? No coin BTW.

Thanks

Ok I've been looking and I found a site that says the Alaskan was made from 59-61 I think. But earlied the site says all bows 59 on had medalions. Does that make my bow a early 59? or are the double shelf bows different?

Also what bows were made in the double shelf?

Where did they put the coin on a double shelf bow Mike? Looking in the catalog, the Alaskan's glass for the 59 and 60 look very much like the Kodiaks. Brown back, Orange belly???

I'm Geussing this is a '58. We looked it up , well Ken did. Anyway with the glass color and the years they did it I'm guessing 58 or early 59.

It has a dark cream color glass (I guess it could be considered grey)

Not sure where a coin could go on a double shelf either.

BTW I strung it with a string I have and took a few shots last night. Man it shoots nice.

I saw one of these this weekend at a trad shoot. A guy was shooting the range with it. He's almost as crazy as me- I was shooting my '54 Kodiak.
The Alaskan he had has the brown back and red/orange belly. The coin is on the right side above the left hand shooters shelf.

Thanks for that info. His sounds like the 59. I've never seen the double shelf bows with a coin. My Alaskan shoots realy well I'm very impressed with it.

I bought it to shoot. Something about a 48 year old bow flinging arrows.

I have always concentrated on the Kodiaks and TD's but have started looking at these Alaskans. The 59 and 60's appear to have the burnt orange and brown as the Kodiak did. They are double shelfed and did have a coin on the right side as Ron has pointed out. There was one on ebay that did not sell the item number is  7164590983     I hope this is not against protocol to post the item number, but there are some good pictures showing the color and the coin.
