Bow Refinish - Who?
« on: December 02, 2007, 03:00:00 PM »
Looking to get my first hunting bow refinished. Any suggestions on where to get this done?

Several years ago I was at an old friends that I haven't seen in many years. We were standing in his garage talking and I noticed an old recurve up on the rafters. He laughed and asked if I don't remember that bow. It was my first hunting bow when I was 16. I forgot he even had it. It needs some TLC to fix some sight holes and nicks, but no major damage. By the way, it's a Wing Gull and it's 53#@28 inches and 64" long.

do it yourself, its not hard and the reward is GREAT! I've redone two BP's recently that looked like they had been bouncing around in the back of a pickup for months. Now they look as sweet as they shoot. Just sand, stain and spray on poly

I've got a recurve with bow doc...so we shall see how well he does. I have heard only good about his work. I am looking forward to see the bow.

I second Trapper Dave. I have done a lot of refurbish jobs on Ben Pearson Mustangs (see my recent post: Another Ben Pearson Mustang refurbish job)
It's not so difficult but you need to be patient. The reward is great!

Nobody mentioned Droptine, who is rather close to bowwalker in location. Nice fella, but I have never had him refinish one of mine. I had bowdoc finish 2 Ben Pearson Colts for me, and the finish was magnificent. Left a digit out of a serial number, though, but that is a minor thing on these bows.

Droptine goes to the BBTC in May, and it would be a good excuse for you to come on out and have some fun along with transferring the bow.
