Treating old leather
« on: September 04, 2008, 04:30:00 PM »
I was just wondering what you folks use on old leather to bring it back to life and keep it good. I have that old Bear quiver it is in pretty good shape with just a few small areas with some cracking. So far I have cleaned it and put some lexal on it, I wanted to find out about some other options that are proven on a old piece like my quiver.

Montana pitch blend oil is good as any. With Old leather that is cracked and dry rotted there is really about nothing to do with it.

Agree with Horney Toad, once the leather is cracked and dry rotted it is cracked and dry rotted.  You might still get good use out of it, but it is on its downhill slide.  I use Lexol.

Pecards is good but once it cracks and dry rots nothing will uncrack it.
