59 Medallion
« on: October 10, 2008, 06:04:00 PM »
Anyone have a medallion for a 59 Kodiak? I would like to put the real deal in there, not a repro.

They are easy to find. They came with every 1959 Kodiak.

Hard part is finding the '59 Kodiak and then deciding if you should remove the coin.

A good friends dad is an engraver(makes hobo nickles)I showed him a Bear medallion and asked about making reproductions. He thought it would be easy enough to get a mold made to strike as many as we want, he thought a couple hundred bucks would get it made.I asked about different metals brass,German silver, aluminium, copper, he said all would would work, just take different pounds of strike pressure.
I asked about lost wax casting method he said it would probably be even cheaper to get a mold made that way, just more labor to use it.
I'm not sure it would be worth it for me, I've only got one 59,and its got its coin.
If anybody is interested PM me (I have access to the tooling)
Yes I think it would be illegal to sell em.

Hi Wadde,Clay already repo'ed most all of the bear coins and they look rather good I might add.I've not spoken to him in a couple months. But I could see if he has any of the coppers for a 1959 left over ? Kurt as for the sale of them,Frank Scott told me as long as you put the coin into a bear bow there was no legal issue..but makeing your own bow and then adding the bear logo or coin was a problem. But to remake and sell them for restoration purpose was OK...same as the after market decals. As long as they were for restoration on a Bear Archery Company bow was OK....bowdoc

59 copper coins have sold for around $75 in the last several years. Too bad we can't find some new source for them.

OK
So,, if Clay is out,
What coin is the hardest to get and the most sought after.
I can't afford all molds to start, but can swing one.
I'll see which year everyone wants to start with and go from there.

Please post a picture so there is no confusion.

When I started W/ this idea, I thought I'd do a solid gold '59 coin, thank God I didn't, I'd be prying that sucker out right about now.

I would want a couple (2) Copper Coins if you end up making some Kurt.

I don't have a closeup pic of one but I'm sure someone will put one up.

Thanks, Daryl
