How Can You Ever Feel Comfortable?

After seeing this 170275431723 and reading the ad, I have serious reservations about ever shooting a vintage bow. Just the thought that someone like this might have owned it prior, it has to be an accident waiting to happen.

Frank if you have a minute please check my thread on This will make you sick.....Little trivia about a maple sight window 1959 kodiak strung and pulled to full draw the same way as the 57 special....bowdoc

I have had as many brand new bows blow up on me as vintage ones........one of each to be exact.
I think the older bows-with a lot more wood in the limbs-could take more abuse. The bows we are buying today may be faster but I doubt anyone will be shooting many of them in 2060! LOL!!

Bjorn thats so true.Frank I was just wanted to a point about the back strung bows.Yes all bow manufacturing companies have had and may continue to have one return from time to time.And yes one Bear bow will also lose it life this year too darn it.I'am not just an old bow fan,but a little cheap too I guess.bowodc

In regards to both threads just how the hell do they screw up stringing a bow! As soon as the grip bent your wrist backwards wouldn't you pause and say "gee this actually hurts my wrist maybe I did something wrong". The wife disagrees but I just don't see how anyone smart enough to walk upright could make that mistake!

Rick,

He didn't screw up stringing the bow, read the ad, he and his dad killed many deer AND fish with that 26# bow. So he must know what he is doing right??? 26# hunting bow strung backward..maybe it even has a new FF string to boot. Would you want to be the next person to own that bow? would you feel comfortable shooting it??, not me, that's my point. Not the original build quality of the bow, just the countless years of abuse by people like this guy who just happens to show everyone just one way he abused the bow.

For any used bow, I think I'll stick to buying form known guys on this site who have good knowledge of their equipment. Accidents can still happen, but it will not be because they abused the bow previously.

OK...but where do thos known guys pick up that bow..e8ay, garage sale, pawn shop...right back were you started unless you know th history of that bow.

 just looked at the auction...that does not bother me a bit.  I have many of mine strung like that while hangin on the wall.  It keeps the string taunt and helps to heep them from drying out.  That does not mean he shoots it that way.  Now the one Doc was talking about with the guy at full draw is another story.

Also, I would like to know where this  guy hunts that he can take an 8 point with a 26# bow.  Must have been using the POD.

Ugly cycle isn't it. Maybe there is no solution. I thought of that too. I only own 2 "Vintage" bows an early '60's Pearson Locksley Puma (Bought New)it was my father's bow, and a '67 Kodiak Magnum (just to replace my first bow when I was 15). Possibly the best answer for me is simple, don't go any further into this venture. All my other bows (Dale Dye's) I know the history of completely.

I wouldn.t worry about it.

You may get burned once in a while but not enough to matter.  Pay attention to descriptions and avoid the ones you suspect

this bow being 26# and 64 inches won't attract too many serious bidders, it's a target bow. The seller is obviously blowing smoke and has never bowhunted with traditional equipment in his life. It is obvious he knows nothing. It would be a good auction to avoid unless you are looking for a light weight bow for some reason. It is not that rare as far as the vintage or length is concerned. I agree with my fellow Alaskan. I also went through his ratings.....not a single other bow listed. I just didn't want to publicly call the guy a fibber without knowing him. However if there's one true word in his description monkeys are going to fly out of my ass!

No I wouldn't buy that bow or one similarly strung, the point of my post. However I don't think paranoia about all vintage bows that didn't come from a collector is warranted either.
