1962? Kodiak
« on: November 24, 2008, 03:38:00 PM »
Hello,
I'd like to ask for some feedback on this bow I bought a week or so back on the auction site.  It appears to be a '62 Kodiak but I'm not so hot at telling the 60-62 bows apart yet.
I have not received it yet but from the pictures posted on the auction - shown below it looks to be in decent shape.
Any info or opinions on the bow would be greatly appreciated!
Oh, I have to brag as my son Troy shot his first deer ever a few days ago - decent 8pt.  Shot him with a '59 Grizzley at about 12 yards.  It was the most excitement I've had since I shot my first deer back in 1971  :)

Thanks,
Terry Beaudoin

I'd call it a 1962 model as well. Shoot straight!
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Thanks for the info guys.  Any suggestions on what I could do to clean up the coin a bit?  Were the coins in the 62's originally pewter?  Or is the black color flaking away and what it should have been all over the coin?

Nice bow the coin was black in that model as the bows clear finish would not stick to the pewter,so they painted em flat black then sprayed a little finish over the whole bow.bowdoc

Bowdoc,
Any suggestion on what flat black paint and clear coat to use on the coin?
Also, outside of stripping off the entire finish - is there a way to 'blend' the finish coat in a way the would make the areas of the bow that are duller or in the case of this bow - brighter - as there appears to be an area just above the bows weight and serial number where there may have been a label or something that kept that part from aging like the surrounding areas.
Thanks - I sure appreciate your help.
