I'm not a regular in the collectors forum but this is cool stuff and I'm here to give my two cents. I had a chance to hang out in the garage with Kurt and check it out a couple of weeks ago.

I guess he's PMing people who had questions, but for the rest of everyone, it looks like it can be made in about any shape/size/color. It works well with regular woodworking tools and takes a great finish. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does with it. (he's even threatened to make me up some in Packer green and gold for a bow I'm working on)

I confess, I'm a garage/shop ninny
 I read about why tips are changed out on the 50's era bows, Don let us know the tip material (paper phenolic) was really just for knife handle's, and Fred used them probably cause they were easily available, they lasted 40 or 50 yrs, before needing to be replaced, hmmmm that seems to be pretty good material to me.
 Glue's/epoxy has come a long way since then, I have worked with epoxy's for both boats and surfboards (hint hint) and thought, why not try to reproduce the original colors using modern waterproof epoxy
 I read up about phenolic (I love google)it did not seem like rocket science and sure enough it isn't.
 Paper phenolic is compressed under heat and really seems tough,easily shaped and looks good when finished.
 So Don can I send you a 50# '57 KS for tip replacement using this stuff?.( can't expect anybody else to try it if I'm not willing to be the guinie pig)
 You scared me, I thought it didn't make the grade and was going back to the drawing board, trying to make linen phenolic.

You sure can anytime..I think it will work great.One note to make...some bows do have just the slightest curve at the very end of the limbs.The KB-5 material is very hard to bend,so if a guy were going to use some material that was a bit ridged like KB-5.You would want to conture the back side to make a good flush fit onto the fiberglass surface.I bet it will last another 50 years.........bowdoc

Should I make the stacks a little less thick? they would probably bend, if they were not so thick.
