Red Wing Hunter braceheight??

Just bought a older Red Wing Hunter 58 in. 60@28 and it has pretty bad handshock. Ive tried bracing it from 7 in. up to 8 1/4 where it is now and its still bad, even when I shoot 567 gr. arrows... What do you guys that have these bows brace yours at? It has a new B-50 string made by the previous owner, any help appreciated.I draw a little over 28 in. with this bow also..

I don't recall my RedWing Hunter having much of a hand shock to start with. Usually braced mine at 7.5 inches because of my short draw.

I brace mine at 6 3/4" haven't found any shock up to 7 3/8".
Are you sure it's not the difference between a longbow and recurve that you're feeling?
It seems to make a difference when I shoot someone's long or flat bow then go back to mine.
Mine is 50#@28 and 58".

This is a recurve and I shoot 95 percent recurves, its definetly handshock, all my recurves have almost zero shock. Going to try 8.5 in. and see what happens.


Billy, how do you shoot yours at 6 3/4 mine at that height has the feathers into the shelf by about a inch..

Are you measuring the brace height from the back of the bow or the throat of the grip?

I brace mine at 8-1/4". I have owned 16 of them, mostly in the 50 to 62 lb. range, and have never noticed any hand shock at all. Has the grip been re-worked at all (any wood removed)? Is the bow structurally sound? Is it quiet?

GaBoy, Ive owned 2 and they were both smooth as silk and dead quiet..This bow doesnt seem as quiet but havent checked since I raised the brace again. I also put some yarn around the string loops to quieten string slap and a set of string leeches beside the muskrat/beaver? silencers, plucking the string hard it sounds quieter but wont know until it gets light out and I can go shoot it this morning.Will post later this evening after I get a chance to shoot it some more.
