What with the Canada on the lower limb of the bears

Hello Guys, I was always thinki what is with the Patent number or the Canada  and 1953?? Patent number I think it is on the lower limb of the bear bows.... I alway wanted to know.. I was thinkin at one time they where made in Canada....

Cody: All Bear bows from 1953 until 1972 have the Canadian Patent date on them. This patent covered the working recurve limb. This is the date of the patent only and is useless to date the bow. The 1953 Patent date is simply the date of the patent for a working recurve limb.

Don’t want to hijack the thread but why was the patent a Canadian one rather than a USA? Michigan State is on the border to Canada, maybe the waiting line was too long at the American patent office so he crossed the lake for a quicker service?

The us patent nos are listed above the canada name. Bear acquired the patent for the US and Canada. The patent was a US and Canada patent.

I thought I had read that Fred had trouble getting a U.S. patent for the working recurve limb because there were already bows with this design patented in the U.S..Folberth comes to mind.So he got a Canadian patent for it.Not positive if this is correct but I believe it is.

I often wonderd the real low down too.I do however think Johnny is pretty close to what was going on along with getting both pats as Steve mentioned US and AHH...bd
