rare bear archery catalogs
« on: February 19, 2009, 04:34:00 AM »
I know a guy that has a 1947(#20) catalog and a 1952(#24). he said both are in good shape. What do you think they are worth. Looking at some of the bear archery history sites it looks like the 1947 catalog is extremely rare.

Jeremiah - The 1947 (#20) Bear Catalog in excellent condition is quite rare. However, the same Catalog in average used condition to poor condition is far more plentiful.

Collectors of paper items consider the three most important things to be condition, condition, and condition.

Naturally, the value would depend greatly on the condition. If it is not in excellent condition, it will not have much value when compared to one in excellent condition.

The information in Catalog #20 is readily available on CD or reproduction color Catalog.

These two sources of Catalog #20 information have dramatically lowered the value of the original #20 Catalogs, especially those in lesser condition.

The best thing to do is put the Catalog on auction for a reasonable starting price, say $50 if in poor condition to $200 if in fine condition in the original mailing envelope. Then let the bidders determine the market value at this point in time.

The truly rare Bear Catalogs are the ten known that precede #20.

Some of the 1930s & 1940s Bear Catalogs that precede #20 have sold for staggering sums, several times what most #20 Catalogs have sold for. The 1930s Bear Catalogs that have appeared at auction have almost always created epic bidding wars.

The end of these auctions are always entertaining if you are fortunate enough to already have the item. However, they are torture if you are bidding at the end of these auctions.
