super k. top limb lines what to do?
« on: February 20, 2009, 07:40:00 PM »
Heres the pics. of the line  problems that I need to fill in some how. they look white, but wetted down there actucally short voids. That are in the glass. The color stays black when wet. Just the top limb has this problem. After I fix this problem. then I need to figure out a way to reproduce the overlay. These pics go with my other post. more pics of bow. Bow doc did you get the pics that I sent you? Sorry if I sound impationt , but eager to put some shine to her. Thanks brothers! Jim

that all looks correct to me.Black fiberglass is really not super black but more of a black gray-ish.With new finish added they normaly will turn a bit blacker. You could fill the deeper ones with a little lotite and then sand them smooth again. As for the tip overlay that also looks correct to me.Those are made of 3 layers of fiberglass and you are seeing a glue line inbetween the layers and thats normal...looks good..bd

Whoops I missed the C myself it is loctite 420 and its clear Grainger about 20.00.The problem with black ink is it lieves resudue behind on the limbs which can cause the finish to not stick good...bd

Doc, yeah that makes alot more sense. spelling was never my best subject either.had some time to read a little bit of your 59 101 class today. pretty cool stuff. so I just take a syringe, and the lock tite. squirt it in the line fiber voids, scrap exess. then sand. sounds pretty simple enough.when you sand LT down what grit paper do you use? will you please let me know if you ever get a silk print or decal for my super k. sounds like youve been working on it. they say good things take time. to bad about al sounds like he had it figured out. its good to pass down knowledge to others. that way the dream lives on. thanks agian for all your help. you are the real bow doc!!! Yes pretty easy fix..I use 100 grit paper on everything..once I got a couple layers of new finish down I use 600 grit wet/dry.Then I use 2000 grit wet day inbetween the last 2-3 coats...bd
