Northwoods Quivers by BEAR ARCHERY Years & Variations
« on: March 19, 2009, 03:50:00 PM »
I am wondering if anyone can verify the years BEAR ARCHERY produced the "NORTHWOODS" quiver and how many different variations did they produce ?

               Thank You

You should just sell that one you have to me and let me worry about it Tom.  LOL

I know they produced one in 1960.

And I think there were some made in the 40s as well.

Wade will be along to add info I'm sure.

Tom – I have Bear documentation from 1941 through 1954 that proves different models of the original Tube Style Northwoods were available for those years. The 12 original Northwoods that appear in the upper right hand corner of this photograph include many of the quivers that are actually pictured in the Bear Documentation from 1941-1954. For some time, I have been documenting Bear Leather Hunting Quivers 1933-1971, but I do not have a completion date for this work.

I also have one model that is very easily recognized as being noticeably different, it is not shown in this photograph, that example is the rarest of all Northwoods.

Not sure what you mean by “variation”. If you are looking for documentation for every leather variation of the Northwoods, this photograph would be far from having every example of those variations.

The later Open Back Northwoods shown in the lower right corner has the Northwoods, name but is a much later quiver and much different design. I just sent an extra of this later Northwoods to Trap.

Tom - Don't recall a red quiver with black stitching. What model quiver is it?

At one point bear advertised any custom colored leather quiver could be ordered. I don't remember the exact year without doing a search. I just made a note of that and will include that information in the completed work about Bear quivers.

Hey, we all need to remember that Bear was in the business of making money by selling archery tackle. If you gave them enough money, they would make it...

Glad you like the display. I have a few more Bear quivers to add to it. Just another thing I should be doing rather than being online goofing off like this...

Doc - I have had several of those 1960 Open Bottom Northwoods over the years in both lengths.

In my never ending quest to upgrade condition I have bought and sold several times the number of quivers in the photograph. All collectors are crazy.

I don't remember where I got that particular quiver. I was thinking I paid about $600 in an auction for it. Does that sound right to you? I'll have to check my records on that one. Probably needed to have my head checked on that one too.

It was the Final Upgrade for the Long Open Bottom 1960 Northwoods. It is unused and like new... It doesn't have any bow dust on it. If I did get it from you, I'm surprised I did not have you sign it. But that may have been before you became so famous...

Tom - Sounds like the red quiver might be a Blackhawk. They have a plain trim around the top about 2" tall. 1950-56 plain stitching around the cuff. From 57 and after made with fancy stitching about the cuff.

The black quiver and the one to the right are the two variations of the Blackhawk. Some of these quivers need to go into the display.
