hole in riser
« on: April 02, 2009, 04:29:00 AM »
Bought this 59 kodiak and it has insert bushing in the back side of the handle. The insert was not in it when I received the bow.I haven't seen any other inserts in this location on any of the other 59's on here.I'd like to fill it and put new tips so I can start shoting it.
What would you do put another insert in the hole or fill it
 Thanks Terry

The hole and splintered glass should be professionally repaired if you want to restore it to a collectable/shootable bow.

Don't remember if BowDoc's "Restoration 101 for 1959 Kodiaks" thread covers splintered glass, but his thread is the best place to seek advice and solutions.

Terry I would plug the hole with a wooden dowel cutting the dowel just a tiny bit shorter then the depth of the hole and use some loc-tite 420 to glue that into place. The 420 will fix the splinter as well.As for covering the hole you can mixed a two part epoxy with brown dry artist pigment and get a pretty good color match. Then cap the hole over with that or maybe add some type of a thin overlay over the hole.bowdoc
