Hunting boots for big feet
« on: December 05, 2007, 05:27:00 PM »
I have size 10 EEEE feet.  Any idea where I can find some good insulated hunting boots that may actually fit?

I'm currently wearing a pair of Rocky's that are only EE.  Even with thin socks, it's a tight squeeze and my feet end up getting cold despite the 800 grams of thinsulate due to poor circulation.

Try a pair of size 11 "wide" and wear a pair of heavy wool socks.

I have 11 1/2 EEE feet; and it is worth the effort to find the right side boot! I have some 12 W that I have worn; but the toe is not going to support you like it should support you. That and you will trip more.
I would not throw away boots that fit tight on the side; as you might hunt out west sometime; and in rocky country; where you face a rock climb; you might need a little tighter boot.
We are hunting though; and we should have a perfect fit with our boots. Stepping over stuff; trying to walk quietly; walking on wet logs; doing really dangerous stuff.
 Find the right boots!

I have size 15's but there not wide like yours check the cabelas catalog or call rocky or any of the actual boot manufactures they may have some things availiable that aren't regular stock items.  Good luck.  Oh have you ever thought about boot blankets? Might be just what you need.

New Balance just came out with a Gore-Tex boot in 4E.   It is not super-heavy-duty but is very comfortable.

Guys I only wear a size 9 but in a 6E and its not wide enough, only place I can even get shoes is from a place called Hitchcocks and their selection sucks. As far as hunting boots I always have to buy a size or size and a half larger and still they are tight.

OK- is there a boot maker in your area? I live near Salmon; and there is one there. They make hunting boots similar to 'Schnees' boots from Montana. I think both will build a boot from the outline of your foot. If there is no place where you are like that; I could check it out here for you.

Cabela's makes their Outfitter boots in 4e.  Also check with Russell Moccasins, sometimes they have a real deal on in stock boots.  Russells are my next boot since it is so hard to find size 15.

Russell Moccasin Co.  They're not cheap, but they are worth every penny IMO.  I used to wear 11EE in off the shelf stuff, sent in my measurements to Russell and found out I'm a 9EEEE.  My first pair of Russell's are showing no wear on the leather, some wear on the soles after 4 years.  I used to walk through a pair of $150 Rocky's or Cabela's boots in 1.5-2 yrs (I put a few miles on my hunting boots  ;)  )--so these boots at $300 have paid for themselves and are still going strong.  As waterproof as new Gore-Tex stuff if you keep them greased.  My second pair are the mountain climbers, with 400g thinsulate and they are also great (2 yrs, several mountain hunts) and all I could ask for in a mountain boot.

If you can't tell, I'm sold on Russells!  These boots are an investment compared to Rocky's, Cabela's, Danner's, etc.

As for buying a size larger in EE, no dice.  Tried it before, just doesn't work  :(
