damn I almost forgot I have a home made reel around here that my granddad made to fit it 1940s pearson wood bow.. I will have to see if I can look ot up....

I made a reel similar to the ones in the bottom of bowdoc's picture back in the 60s.  It was made out of a whittled piece of wood and a bar of plexiglass screwed to the back of it.  Unfortunately I can't find it now but I have the arrow for it.

Here is some old bowfishing stuff...

Mostly from the 1940s when wood and metal were about the only materials available for most bowmen.

There are 3 bowfishing reels and the business end of 5 bowfishing arrows..

Some are products produced by some historically significant archery personalities.

The Easter weekend trivia contest for the archer-collector-shooter-bowfisherman...

If anyone can identity the item and the maker of 8 of the 9 items, I will send all 9 items to that person… Only one winner, which requires 8 that are identified.

A few hints…

1. One item was made by a man who killed a moose 12 years before Fred Bear killed his first moose…

2. One man’s first name is Bob…

3. At least one of the items appeared in archery periodicals of the era…

4. One item was made by one of Fred Bear's earliest hunting companions...

5. One item was made by Bear Archery, it is so easy it should not have been in the photograph…

6. These items came from several different states.

7. Two wooden arrows have aluminum nocks, one is self nock.

8. One of the items has appeared in an auction within the past two years, but was un-named and undated.

Hinkley you can not play, you know too much already. I have duplicates of only one item, and you will get one...

If there is no winner, I will post the correct answers on Monday...

This bowfishing rig was used by a man who killed a moose 12 years before Fred Bear killed his first moose, the Ben Pearson head is there to cover his name. Any info on the reel please pass along, I haven't been able to find a name to go with it. Maybe homemade? But doesn't look to be.

Doc - Never heard of a Markworth (either one or two names) as related to any bowfishing equipment.

I'm certainly no expert on bowfishing tackle. But then I can't say that I have ever met anyone who really is. But then there are certainly a lot guys who I never met.

Most of the half dozen or so guys who were the more active or serious collectors of fish points and fish heads 25 years ago or so, are now deceased.

Bowfishing tackle is a field of collecting that has only gained significant interest the past few years since collecting fish points and fish heads has become popular among some of the newer broadhead collectors.

I would hope that at some point in the future, that someone will write a comprehensive book about all vintage bowfishing tackle. My mediocre initial efforts to document just fish points and fish heads, were certainly far from complete.
