My first restoration ever bear grizzly 1969

Hello guys, I found this bow in a barn here last week and wanted to know what year it is my uncle told me he got at a yard sale in the 1970s and just had it in his barn to shoot birds and last week I found it and he told me to have as he didn't want the old thing any more... She needs a Restoration bad so I am thinkin of trying my hand at it I not going to take the tip over lays off but jut make the old girl look better...

and I forgot this pic I think she will need some LT40 that is a clip but would should I do to fill that up with LT40 ?

I would guess 1969 by the serial number.

Great restoration project. I would not change the overlays either if they are not split or damaged. Those are not the paper micarta tips we find on 1959 and earlier Bears.

thanks I was thinkin late 60s as well..

Whats the best way to take out the coin I been trying to think what to do.. O I know I could hand the bow to wade and have him drop it on the floor a time or two ( inside joke with wade and I )

I heated a correct size bolt with a propane torch and deposited it on the coin for a few minutes so the heat could transfer through the coin to the glue holding it in place on my first and only restoration to date. I then used a needle to pry the coin off. BowDoc had a neet trick with the same heat transfer but used a glue stick to pull the coin off. Do a search with something like «tip of the week» or «tip of the day»

Ok guys I would like to see some more pics of your 1960s bear grizzy as I need to see what the arrow self and the riser wood color look like and maybe that well help me on think what I should use for it.. I now filling in hole with LT40... Back to the shop I go

This is a 1966 Grizzly and the wood may be different.  I know the glass is a different color.  I think this little bow is really good looking myself.

P.S I have the riser sanded down. when I get back from shooting trap 2nite I will post some pics of the riser.. My friend and I are goin to shoot shome clays with are bows...

Ok guys did some more work on the old girl I know this is not as good as saome of the other Restoration I have seen on here and have to say thanks to Doc as if not for this post I don't think I would have ever tryed this at all THANKS DOC and thanks to every one for there great help.. Well back to the restoration first thing first thank god I took a pic of the ser number and the AMO as I want to make sure I have it to put back on the riser which I want to know what is the best pen to do that with ? But I have not sanded the numbers off I wanted to make sure be fore I did that I could re write them on there...Well the riser in the first pics I posted look like the wood was not in all the best shape but I will be damn if I sanded the wood down and must be got lucky or some thing cause that wood looks very good to me... The riser is all in one there no need for any LT40 from what I can see what do u guys think...

I still can not get that coin out of the darn riser I have tryed almost everthing but I dont want to dent the coin or any thing... tomorrow I think I will take it easy and go shoot my bow and maybe sand on the limbs I think I should have her done in a few days.... if any one has a old no shooting bow they dont want let me know as I would love to keep doing this I been larning a lot and to me its so much fun... so if any one has any kind of old no shooting bow let me know...

Cody did you try warming up a bolt head and setting onto the coin ? and then the hot melt ?? they are glued in with hot melt originaly from the factory and it should pulll right out once your stick of hot melt cools ??? keep me posted bowdoc

Thanks Simon I think that was what I was not doing.. I was just letting the bolt tell in got warm are u sure it wont hurt the coin being that hot ?.....
