I bought some Bear arrow's but they need to be refletched. My question is what is the best way to remove the old fletching with out damageing the paint on the arrow's.

Doug..I use a utility knife and lift and slide along as you go. You will have to touch up around the fletching with a very small artist brush. you have to adjust your fletcher for each feather to be sure it is hitting the old spot...Good luck Mike

I am anxious to hear everyone else's experience with this. I have had them go both ways with the fletching removal tool or utility razor blade. Sometimes the paint / dipping comes off and other times it's not effected at all. When I am concerned with paint removal I start up at the nock end and very "gently" start removal process. I try to avoid the up and back scraping motion.

Doug.. Most of the old Bear arrows had two barred and one solid feather. I buy up old feathers every time i see them just for restoring old arrows. I always check with old archery shops and seem to find them. As for the paint for touch up i mix testors model paint until i get the right color. Doug if you lift the old feather very slow with the tip of the knife you wont have much to touch up. You will find alot of the old bear arrows had 51/4" feathers and they are very hard to find. If this is the case try using 5 1/2" and that also cuts down on the touch up ....Mike

Got the old fletching off, and just to let you the arrows came with plastic fletching. Lost almost no paint but their is still some glue on the arrow. Can I use goo-gone or something remove residue with out hurting the paint.
