Reddogge   Just wait! The words time capsule have crossed my mind many times while researching these bows

Phil   Thanks, Its was not real easy for a regular self employed welder/pressure washer/bowhunter to do (It's a lot of bows!) but when I realized how important they were it became a quest not to let them be dispersed into many different directions and uses after they had been so well cared for and kept together all these years by their creator.

The 1961 catalog says: Bear bowyers (ie Bill Stewart) have designed the fastest limb ever tested at Bear labaratories - or anywhere else!

1961 Kodiak Special 63" 42# Zebra wood lt. green glass front and back(almost yellow) missing coin, gold writing

1961 Kodiak Special 69" 42# Zebra wood white glass front,lt. green glass back, no coin, black writing

Grge,
Looks like the lamination on Xperimental on 1st page is LACEWOOD.  Cool stuff you have.

OOPS! I meant to post the box pic first if they came with one.

Thanks for all the congrats!

Wade  All the pics I've seen were I beam also. I love the slabs of Zebra wood Mr.Stewart chose for the EXP's. The grain almost runs together.

Tom   Thanks for the Lacewood idea. I've been thinking Maple or Zebra. Here's a close up.

This thing is so gorgeous this pic is going in my screen saver file!

OK guys, do you put the coin in(it's a brand new condition original coin, thnx Tom, but not the one that fell out or was removed) Or leave it the way I found it? So far I've done nothing but mild cleaning and a little Renaissance wax.  Greg

If there is trace of glue, we could deduce that the coin fell off so I would glue it back in. If there is no trace of glue, I would keep it coinless.

Just my humble opinion.

Greg - The Riser on the Exp Special with Laminated Insets looks like it may be Buginga. The laminations look like maple to me too.

The 1.38" wide x .90" tall angled 3-line strike plate of the 1963 Kodiak might cover up the routed hole on this bow. Not original year, but might be the best looking option.

If I offered my 2004 Chevy Pickup for that Exp Special would you consider trading even up or would I have to throw in something else? LOL

Yes, those zebrawood risers are eye-catching pieces of wood.

I agree with Simon’s suggestion, if the coin hole looks like it never had a coin in it before, I wouldn’t put one in it now.

Simon and Wade   There is glue in the hole for sure. The coins fit VERY tight though.

Mike  "The History!!!The Bows!!!" Thats exactly what I've been thinking since this started. It is so nice to finally show it to everyone.

Wade   I think the strike plate idea is the way to go,at least for now. I don't know if that old chev could pull a big enough boat behind it for that swap!LOL

No box with this one.

1962 Kodiak Magnum EXP. 52" 61#
possibly the first Rosewood K Mag, it has very unusual laminations trimming it(Zebra?)

Greg - Yes, unsual laminations under the glass. Are they strips of narrow laminations glued together edge to edge to form the width of the limb?

John has one Exp Bear that has glued up laminations under the glass, they may be placed diagonally, can't remember for sure.

I have one production Bear with 16 laminations (if I counted correctly) under the glass that are glued together edge to edge to form the width of the limb. I believe the narrow strips are all maple.
