E.F. Enos Jr. - Steel Spring Bow - 1915
« on: August 04, 2009, 02:37:00 PM »
This uniquely constructed E.F. Enos Jr., Steel Spring Bow was patented in 1915.

Rick Enos, thought you might enjoy seeing this one. Is E.F. Enos Jr. related to you?

The bowman might suffer some palm pinch with no glove on his bow hand.

Looks like a RH/LH

How about those dotted lines? Ever seen a string that was being drawn look like an arc?

Anybody have one of these for trade?

I'm told the Enos's have a good imagination & are said to be good wood workers But...That takes the cake.I've never heard of him.I dont think Its a bow..Its a traveling Clothes-line.Just kidding..It would be interesting to dig into that a little further......

Where would one put the arrow? On top of the spring? Seems way too high to me. In The middle of the grip? Wayyyy «off center» and would need major paradox!

Could this be for something else than archery? An exerciser of some sort?

Simon -

Good questions. Would guess there were lots of problems with this particular spring bow design. Obviously it never caught on as most of us have likely never used a spring bow.

Scanned part of the Enos patent text and enlarged it to make it readable... As you can see, Archery is mentioned as an intended usage. Use as an exerciser is not mentioned anywhere...

Wade, I just looked in 44 years behind the bow.. And seen that there was a bow made in 1912 that was also made from Steel Spring.. I have never seen a real one but just a drawing in the book.. This one you posted is new to me.. Looks like it would work.........

Best,

Cody
