Speculated...How did I do??? UPDATE
« on: August 20, 2009, 12:38:00 AM »
item number 350240810531

Okay what you see is what I saw.  No pictures. Here is the item description

"Here are a couple packs of items from a local estate, I AM NOT a bow hunter so you judge, There is one unopened package, FRED BEAR RAZORHEADS in the yellow package, I dont see any  size.

Then a  Second package in the red and black, FRED BEAR RAZORHEADS 5 in this package of originally 6,  and 5 AUXILIARY BLADES on the  Fred bear card."

LOL,  I know what I think I have but, I havent received the item yet and the seller hasnt answered a single question.

What do you think is coming?

I'll post picks when I find out.  Who knows, maybe it's another Apollo nose cone.

Trap - sounds like you got...

1. An opened blister pack of 1964 Razorheads

2. And a 6-pack card with 5 Razorheads (could be 1956, 1957, 1960 or 1964 Razorheads) sounds like the card is in an original Razorhead box

3. And a Razorhead Auxiliary Blade Card with 5 auxiliary blades taped on the card.

Even when there are photographs, I've learned you can receive something other than what you thought you saw in the images.

Hope you are surprised when they arrive and receive 5 Pinned Bears...

With my very limited experience here I would only venture a "guess" on the blister pack of Razorheads and the bleeders. I would have had no idea on age but Wade got that one. Does the color of the blister pack lead you to know an approx age? Did the packaging change at a certain time?

No pics at all? Trap you know your stuff!!!!

Trap - The # 1. Should say "unopened" rather than "opened". Guess 05:49 AM was too early...

John - I don't collect the 1964 Razorheads in the Blister Pack so don't know all color variations that were made.

In the 1966 catalog, Bear called them "skin pack".

I would use the price as a starting point to date a "skin pack" because the price of the "skin pack" changed for some years.

This gives you an idea for dating a Razorhead "skin pack"  from the 1960s using the catalog prices...

1966 - $5.45 per doz
1967 - $5.95 per doz
1968 - $5.95 per doz
1969 - $7.95 per doz

Although the price is clearly shown on the "skin pack" photograph in the 1966 catalog, the photograph appears as though the price is obscured from 1967 to 1969. So not even certain that each "skin pack" was marked with the price each year during that period. Again, would be a logical starting point to investigate.

I do collect the 1956 to 1965 Razorhead boxes, and both the Red End and Black End boxes are all marked with the prices, which did change over the years, but certainly not every year.

I'm sure someone who collects "skin pack" variations can tell us about the markings of the price changes and color/printing changes on "skin packs".

Well unfortunately the package did not contain 5 Pinned Bears.

The broadheads were all 64 models in two different packages.

So, not a great deal but considering a card of 64 razorheads sold for $87.00 today on the big auction site, I think I did okay.  I didnt have either one so they'll display well.

Trap - The good news is that you got the top tray 6-pack for the box, which is the harder to find the bottom tray.

Would guess the end of the box is red with a price of $5.45. If the end of the box is black, you got a real bargain!!!!!!!

Actually, the end of the box (tray) is white.  I made it out of an "unused" pastry box.

When I received it, the black and red card contained 5 '64 heads and the tips of the broadheads were loose because the top folded section had no support.

A little cutting, folding and contact cement got it all snug again.

Why are the black box ends a bigger bargain?

Trap - Your pastry box looks like an original box from the angle you took the photograph. You are more than inventive !!!

The black end Razorhead boxes were Single Blades Only, they did not include the Axillary Blades and sold for less than the Red End Razorhead boxes. In my experience, Red End boxes are more common than Black End Boxes.

Interesting that your Razorhead Skin Pack has the 1967 & 1968 Bear Catalog price $5.95 doz.

WOW, that's where they all went  ;)

Thanks for yet another lesson.  I didnt know they were sold both ways.

The prices of things 40-50 years ago make me laugh.  Heck you can't even fill up that pastry box now for $4.95

When you run the NPV of the money we were paying it was more in the old days than we are paying now. That 29 cent per gallon gas from the 50's is about double of what we are paying today!

Trap - The 1959 Bear Catalog page 14, shows the Razorhead offered both as the H-1 for $3.75 and H-4 for $4.95.

Although Razorhead Boxes marked with the $4.95 price were sold in other years, the $4.95 Razorhead Boxes are the official 50th Anniversary 4-blade 1959 Boxes...

The $3.75 Single Blade Only boxes are the the official 50th Anniversary Single Blade 1959 Boxes...

I don't have any razorhead boxes marked $4.95, so you better send me one complete with heads so I'll have the correct equipment come opening day.  :bigsmyl:

Okay, I'd even go out on a limb and pay twice what they originally sold for.

Trap - You know I am a soft touch.

I am sending you a H-4 Razorhead Red End Box marked $4.95. It is far from mint, but it has a clear cover. Unfortunately, there is nothing inside the box except air. If you need to put something in it, you can always use your original top tray and put some 57-59 Razorheads in it...

Don't send me any money for it.

That's very generous Wade, Thank You,  I'll put it to good use.

I have several 57-59 heads that will be right at home.
