« on: August 29, 2009, 01:44:00 PM »
Picked up this Grizzly today, looks to be a '59 with a silver coin, RH and 49#...64" length, the catalog states 62" only (NO SPECIAL ORDERS) so has anyone seen a 64" Grizzly in their travels?

Never heard of 64" Grizzlys either. I’m no expert but I really like Grizzlys. That’s a great bow right there.

That string on it is off my old '59 Kodiak 64", it is not a miss-marked bow..

That is a real find there. I wonder if an employee made a lunch box special by using a 64" kodiak form.

Roy - Great score. Have never seen a 64" 1959 Grizzly.

Wonder is the riser is the same length as a 62"? Just measured a 62" 1959 Grizzly, it is 22" from fade out end to fade out end. It is 60-1/4" tip to tip in a straight line.

How does your 64" compare?

Horney Toad - Roy's photos of the 64" Grizzly riser look like a Grizzly upper riser which has a lot more meat in the last 4 to 5" when compared to a 64" 1959 Kodiak which really tapers down those last 4' to 5".

WOW, I find it amazing that after all these years, fresh new unheard of examples of bows and other tackle are showing up.

Roy's 64" Grizzly, Greg's truckload of Stewart Bears, Wade's Zebra Wood Clear glass 60 Kodiak and others I can't think of right now.

What's next?  A 52" MSW 59 Kodiak?

I mean, just think about all of the people that have collected Bear Archery equipment through the years, and this 64" 59 Grizzly has probably just been displayed on someone's wall for the better part of 50 years.

Is there a story with this bow Roy?

This is a great mystery. Never, ever heard of a 64" grizzly. Too bad Frank Scott is not still around.

Roy - The measurements of your 64" Grizzly are close to the 62" 1959 Grizzly in this photograph taken with your LH 64" 1959 Kodiak.

If the profile of your 64" 1959 Grizzly is the same as the profile of this 62" 1959 Grizzly, your 64" Grizzly may really be a 62" Grizzly that was mis-marked... Does anyone close to you have a 62" 1959 Grizzly that you can put side by side to photograph?

Qoite a find, and a beauty too. The riser length seems pretty normal eyeballing the pic against my '59 Grizzlies. The spec writing is the same handwriting as mine are. And Roy is using the string from a '64" Kodiak, it is a 64" bow.
Maybe a 'lunch box' special built on a 64" Kodiak frame??

Bjorn - I just put the string from Roy's LH 64" 1959 Kodiak in the photograph, on the 1959 Grizzly in the photograph, the brace height is a bit low at 6-1/4".

Roy - If you can post a photograph of the profile of your Grizzly when unstrung, it will clearly show if your Grizzly was built on a Grizzly form.
