Bear Coin Knife Option #2
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:50:00 PM »
If I can't find a broken Bear coin riser, I think there is someone reproducing Bear Coins??  I can inlay one into a real pretty exotic slab knife handle.  Just need to come up with maker??  Thanks again for any help...tippit

Kurtbel on here Jeff.

I have a riser with coin from a broken Kodiak Special Deluxe. Since you are using it for the St Judes knife, and Shell will probably be doing the sheath, I would be honored if you would accept the riser at no cost.

Kenny, That's almost too pretty to cut up!  Maybe I can get my buddy bowdoc to finish the handle like a new bow  :bigsmyl:  Four way collaborative project for the kids...tippit

It would be tough to cut that baby up, but for the kids, I think it would be a sweet knife!

There are other parts of the bow that can be used as well in different ways. I think it would be a fitting end to a great old bow that was destroyed by ignorance. The tips could be made into key fobs and sold in the St Judes auction. There is enough wood in the riser for several knife handles as well as some limb tips.

I'm game for starting the surgery if you want to use it. I had thought the knife handle having the accent stripe in it with the coin at the location of the knot in the Osage handle one.

Kenny, I just emailed Shell to start her creative juices flowing.  I think that section with the coin is thick enough to band saw down the middle to get mirror image slabs with the coin on one side.  So if this becomes a project, you can just cut that section out for me and I'll slab it out.  Then you can make up some of the other projects from the remaining pieces.  If that all makes sense  :)

Now I got to get that little weasel bowdoc in a head lock until he cries out Uncle to put his Super Magic Finish on it.  It just wouldn't look like a Bear knife without that finish  :notworthy:  the other Doc
