Any medal/awards collections?
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:20:00 PM »
I have lots and have two very special, one of a kind.  Here's the first.

Bronze, third place ladies.  First NFAA National in 1946.  Alma was well known for killing bigger deer than her old hubby.

My other is an interscholastic award to a young lady given by Archery Review, with an inscribed card in the case from the editor of Archery Review.  Not dated.  I'll take a photo of it when I get back down to my shop where there are stored.

I have a number of duplicates and looking for NFAA issues to fill in some holes.

Cool medal..the few that I have collected are some that I won while shooting tournaments. Nothing as beautiful as that.

Cliff-I have a few medals from the same NFAA tournament, the very first one held in 1946 in Allegan Michigan. The medals were designed by W.B. Wescott and the one with the lion on it was an idea he got from an old Greek(I believe it was Greek, gotta look it up) coin he had.The inscription in latin means "to the most worthy archer".The green ribbon was worn by the participants of the tournament.

This next medal and blue ribbon were awarded to the third place winner in the men's flight shoot.1st place went to Tiny Munson from California and 2nd place went to Nels Grumley.

This next picture is the same flight shoot awards along with the original three day program with all the participants scores for the tournament.

This photo is of a group of archers that participated in that 1946 tournament.Among those pictured are Fred Bear, his first wife Marie,Frank Scott,Nels Grumley,Tiny Munson,Henry Bitzenburger,Floyd Eccelston,Walter Knoblock and many others.I'm sure the Blundell's are in there too.

The last pic here is some sort of souvenir I suppose from the 1947 NFAA tournament. It's a small ceramic steer skull with the inscription "NFAA Archery 1947 Utah Centennial. Some great stuff from the past, thanks for sharing your items Cliff.

WOW I had no idea of the history of archery in Allegan. I was born and raised, and lived most of my life in Allegan. I now live about 14 miles due east of town. Cool stuff now to find one of those awards, that bronze is awesome

Cliff , here is a couple of medals that Gilman Keasey gave me along with one of his invoice books

The ribbon is from the National Archery Association second place men's flight shoot class 1
Los Angeles Calif. July 29 1935.
The medals say Pacific North West Archery Association and the packets they came in listed the medals were for flight shooting as well
