Bear key chains?
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:47:00 PM »
I picked up a Bear key chain this week.  Its made out of a Bear bow tip with a small Bear sticker on it.  Any info would be appreciated.  Age and value.

I get a couple out to you.  I heard that Bear recalled some bows and that someone at the factory made key chains out of the tips.  The one I have  is in very nice shape and has brown glass with a green glass tip over lay.  The sticker is black back ground with a gold bear with the word bear on it.

Doc - Can you identify what make and year bow these limb tips were from...

The inset in the upper right corner shows the core laminations are made from edge laminated strips that are each about .130" wide.

I would guess these limb tips came from Bear, but I am not certain...

As nice as they look, I think I will keep my keys in my pocket and my tips on my Bears!

On the other hand, give me a compound and a hacksaw and I will be glad to make key fobs, bookmarks, or back scratchers galore.

Limbs tips are often artful representations of the bowyer’s skill. And salvaged limb tips can be made into all sorts of things – key chains, zipper pulls, interesting decorative do-dads, etc.

Here’s a special limb tip, simply tied on a backquiver, from a Fred Bear Signature TD limb that went KaBoom! on me on a cold November day in Iowa. Don’t know who was more surprised – me, the buck I was drawing on or the bow!

The rest of the limb was firewood, but I kept the tip. Too cool not to.

Doc, why lower ourselves to a dirty cash deal? Why not just swap early B and C risers for that lonely Signature riser? Trading is so much more fun.

I had a Shakespeare in the early 70's, that had bow tape on it. I decided to remove the tape, and fibers of glass were lifting from the limb as I was removing the tape. I pressed the tape back on the limb. I finally cut it in half, so I wouldn't continue shooting it.

Wish I had been smart enough to think about cutting the tips off and saving the handle.   :dunno:

there are some on fleabay listed now but they appear to be salvaged tips made by the seller not ones made at the Bear shop-usually those will have a coin, decal or something.Nowhere near as valuable imo.
