Bear Help Please.
« on: March 04, 2010, 01:39:00 PM »
I think I just found a 1959 Kodiak... My hearts beating like I was drawing down on a Booner...

Sorry No Pics.

Serial number BG963
60" 50# @ 28" Kodiak

red and white overlays

original grip, leather side plate and feather rest. The coin is there also.

The riser wood is a medium to dark brown with a heavy black grain. It has an I beam that looks like purpleheart. I'm guessing on that because the I beam is very dark right now. One tip overlay is broke just past the string groove on the very tip, but replaceable.

Am I right on the year and what's the general value? I'm buying it either way, ($150) but I'd like to know.

I think I just found a good one!!!

Thanks for any help.

Rob

I would say "YES" based on all those clues.  Even the serial # sounds in the park and all the other parts of the puzzle look like they will fit.

Value is tough to assess, but other than the bad tip, if in excellent shape, $500-$600 is not out of the question.  The 50# is a good one too.

Is the coin brass, pewter, aluminum or copper?

benzy- sounds like a reason to get excited. Proceed with reasonable caution but for sure proceed. Check laminations carefully and look for extreme stress cracking. If things are as they appear, congratulations.   GY

Thanks for the replies.

I just went back and bought it... Still shaking like a leaf. LOL

The coin looks like copper. It has a little green patina. (sp?)

Orangish brown glass on the belly, brown on the front.

I'll take some pics tonight.

Sorry Rob, but you will have to turn it over to, a non gap, non adjustable limb, non alum handled, non flipper rest type of shooter   :biglaugh:

PS bring it Wed even if it is wrong handed.   :D

Photobucket hates me, or my employer hates photobucket???

So far no pics here...

Brent you know me, if it was a lefty I'd just mount a wisker biscuit on it and shoot it upside down.   :)
