Damon Howatt HI-SPEED
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:53:00 PM »
I have picked up a Damon Howatt HI-SPEED,58" 45#@28"
HS 41705  Could someone give me an idea of the age of this bow and did they install the stabilizer/bow fishing bushing at the factory or was it done by a previous owner?
                       Thanks,
                              Craig

If your decal specs say AMO, with a curved accent stripe in the riser, I'll guess '74.
Generally first # in serial is the yearfrom '60s
through early '70s
My '74 Hunter has a factory insert,the '72 Hi-speed does not.

Brad,
It does have the curved accent stripe so maybe it is a 74. Thanks for the information.

Mine is a '72 54". Pretty fast for 47# and probably the best shooting short recurve ever. Nice find Craig.

Fast for sure.. The Diablo's of the early 60's I believe became the Hi Speeds of the late 60's. Smokes an arrow.

Nope.  The Hi Speed and the Diablo were offered concurrently.  The Hi Speed was a short version of the Hunter and was discontinued in 1979.  It was reintroduced as the Mamba in 1986.

I picked up High Speed and a Diablo today along with a few Bears. The last High Speed I had was a 72 and I traded that one off before I ever had a chance to shoot it. I'm not going to let that happen this time. These babies are going to get shot tomorrow!

I bought the bow that monkeyball originally posted about and I am impressed. The bow is light, has very small tips, smokes an arrow (for 45#), and the grip is fantastic. This is the first Howatt I have owned and shot. I now might have to find one of these in 50-53#....

My only complaint is I wish the shelf was cut a little lower.
