A question for Bear collectors/Found Pics!
« on: April 13, 2010, 06:05:00 PM »
My girlfriend and I went to her parents cabin in Potter county, Pa for a long weekend. Since her fathers passing, the family has decided to sell the place. One day, we got to pokin around and I found two trad bows. One was a nice lookin longbow with no markings on it. The other was an old Bear Kodiak. We were wondering if any of you Bear collectors could tell us how old it is. I took pics of it, but they're prints, so I can't post them. Here are the numbers off it. 64", 46#, then, #DY923. it has some sort of light colored wood, maybe maple? And black glass on the limbs. It is in beautiful shape, with a leather looking grip on it. Can any of you folks help?

Runnin is right, however, the leather grip, maple riser, black?? glass tells me it is before coins were introduced .  It also rules out the '58 because glass was white for that year.  The '57 had brown glass as did the '56, sooooooo are you sure it is black and not brown glass?

Does it have a dual shelf for shooting both right and left handed?

I love mysteries like this.    ;)

Bret - Your bow is a 64" Brown Glass 1957 Kodiak with a scalloped sight window.

The 64" 1957 Brown Glass Kodiak was also made with a wedge sight window, in two very different variations, both of which are quite rare.

Your bow looks like it is in pretty good condition.

Is the riser made of maple? I have no experience with the Kodiaks, very little with Bears, are they nice shooters?
