My #1 drool bow is a A handle Bear T/D, Early 70's model #2 A Jerry Pierce Choctaw, #3 A Grumley Deerslayer, oh man the list goes on, oh forgot would like to get a Torges Bow also, these threads kill me:)

Thanks to Jack i got my holy grail bow on its way. A Bear Custom Kodiak TD Green stripe signed by Fred Bear and Frank Scott! here's a pic of the signed riser.

As soon as i can get the signatures covered in clear coat to make sure i won't mess them up...she's going to Canada on a moose hunt this September!

You have great ambitions for those 55# limbs. If you would like, I can lend you the 70# limbs I have for that trip.

I know 55# can do the job, and there have probably been many Moose downed woth 55# or less, but the 15 extra lbs would give you a bit of an edge.

If I am not mistaken, 70# was Papa Beaars weight of choice for his larger big game animals.

Let me know if you want to borrow them.

I'm always a fan of the offbeat designs from the past. The Howatt Eldorado with offset handle is high on my list. If I don't find one for sale, I will probably build a modern interpretation of it.

One of the the Browning folding bows in a target length and weight is high on my list too.

Awhile back, I picked up a late 60's Sabo SSR (with the shoot through riser and dual stabilizers). It requires more tools to adjust than a modern compound but I love it anyway. It is an excellent shooting bow.

I'm still workin' on gettin' a TD,...more a shooter than collector, would settle for a mag riser for starters to hunt with maybe, if I could find one that didn't go for a ridiculous price, like just happened again...

Fantastic site...just found it a couple days ago & have been reading almost non-stop...SO MUCH information!!!...the topics answer a bunch of questions I've been wondering about...which reminds me..........

Glad you are enjoying the site.

One point of clarrification...there is no such thing as a "rediculous price"

When asked what a particular bow is worth, we always say "they are worth what someone will pay for them...no more, no less".

A bows value is determined by a multitide of factors. The model, condition, and other factors, but mostly what an individual is willing to pay. All other factors set aside, what it is worth to an individual is the real factor.

If you have something I want, you set your price. If I want it that bad, I step up. If not, I walk away. Very simple.

I hope you continue to hang out here, learn, and contribute. Believe it or not, there are things that many of us here can learn from you.

Felix, keep the faith, there is LH Type 1 out there just waiting to be found, and it will be worth the wait. There are a lot of great bows mentioned here, but none with more history than the one Fred carried for so many years.
