Thank You Fred Bear...We Are Honored
« on: September 22, 2010, 05:20:00 PM »
Sue and I have a very good friend by the name of Sherwood Schoch. Sherwood worked for Bear Archery as a rep and shot on the Bear Team. He also spent a lot of time with Fred at Grouse Haven. In 1985 Fred gave his distinguished hunting guests a Bear Archery watch and a Grouse Haven patch as a gift. At the close of that hunting season there was one watch and one patch left on the table. Fred gave them to Sherwood and told him to find someone who really deserved them. Well, 25 years later Sherwood presented us with that watch and patch for our collection. He said this is for preserving all those Bear items over the years and keeping the history alive. Sherwood also gave us some pictures from that time. Wow! we were floored to say the least. We thought we would like to share some of these items with you. We wish we could thank Fred in person.
Thank you Fred Bear. You will always be remembered. Mike & Sue Shaw

Congats what a great gift to have received.

That's wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing.
I have a similiar picture of Fred and a friend sitting at that same table. By the looks of your photo I would think it was taken at the same time. Perhaps the same day.........Philip

Ya know I'm a casual collector in comparison to many here. I got interested several years ago after lurking around here. Since I have built a small collection. The one thing that amazes me the most is the amount of products and collectibles that Bear Archery has created. I never realized the depth of Fred's company, but everyday I learn and appreciate more. Thanks for sharing Mike, what a piece of history.

Fred even took the time to sign a stream rock for a fishing buddy Dallas Miller from Barto Pa. Dallas has joined Fred in the happy hunting and fishing grounds. Rest in peace Fred and Dallas. The rock is also on display in our collection now.

Mike.
I think that is the most tender item Fred Bear could give. For Fred to sign a stone and give it to a friend has more meaning to me than if it were a bow. He obviously was giving something of HIMSELF and that says alot about him. Thank You for sharing that......Philip

Mike,
Thank you for sharing this stuff with us! As part of the younger, but not so young generation; I am trying to keep the memory alive. My plans are to pass whatever knowledge and items I have not sold or traded to my children. My little man of 5 was shooting his Red Bear, with little chief cedar arrows, and has a child size vintage bear 3 finger glove today. He even put on his back quiver and grabbed arrows from it. He is a natural, and it gives me hope for the future as he absolutely loved it! Made me proud! I hope that I raise a child who appreciates the type 1 Stickbowman A handle for more than it's retail value. ;o)
