Help me ID a Kodiak Magnum
« on: October 23, 2010, 10:55:00 PM »
Hello Fellow Tradgangers,
I just picked up a new bow today, well new to me that is. Just want some imput on the year.  I was thinking it was a 62', since the serial number begins with a 2, but then I read that they didn't have the stripe/laminated riser until 64'. As you can see it's a curve stripe.  The grip is nicely rounded unlike my mid 70's k-mags and feels great in the hand. The glass is gray and in great shape.  There is a threaded bushing w/plug in the side of the riser, opposite of the shelf. I think its factory but unsure. I have seen other k mags with them but I am unsure if its factory or not? any opinions.
I really love the wood coloring, What kind of wood is it?  And I really love the #65lb draw weight.  Looking forward to putting some venison in the freezer with this bow some day.
Here are the stats incase you can't see them in the pics.

I think it is a '65; the 66 and 67 did not have green glass.
But the 67 1/2 had green glass too......... Serial numbers take a bit of a back seat.

So would this bows glass be considered green or grey?  And any thoughts on what type of wood the riser is made of?

I would need to go with a 64'. The 65 serial # would start with 5 as far as I know. I have what I believe are two of each years. That is, unless the information I go by isn't entirely correct?

The woods on the riser look like a 66 but the tips and glass more like a 64-65,the serial num if it is original is for a 64.Really interesting, maybe a pre serie,66?

Anyone by chance know what the threaded insert in the side of the riser is for? And if it is factory? I have seen other k mags with them in the same place but most don't seem to have it.  Only thing i could think that would go down there would be a quiver mount of some type.

I would echo what the others have said, also gray glass = 64, green glass = 65. Yours is gray, 1964. CKruse

The 1964 is my favorite year, curved stripe and gray glass.
