refinish project

I have an older longbow with a gloss finish, way too glossy for a hunting bow. I've taken the gloss off with some steel wool, now can I top coat it with some satin wipe on poly or tru oil ?

I would use true oil, let it dry & steel wool it again.Should give you a satin look.
