Arrow Help
« on: February 12, 2011, 10:34:00 PM »
Can anyone help me out with some spine info. on old True Flight arrows? There is an ad in the classifieds under Arrows and Arrow components for True Flight Fiberglass Arrows. The bow weight as written on the boxes is 17.6 and 17.8. This number also appears on the picture of the inserts for the 17.6 arrows. If anyone knows, perhaps they could post on the thread what the spine or weight range is? I'm conflused.

Those arrows are identical to my old graphlex arrows. The graphlex are marked the same way, like 17-6, 17-8 and 18-8. They made several sizes. I have used these for years, and killed my buck this year with a 17-8. They are fiberglass with strips of graphite embedded in the arrow. The 17-6 works well with 50-55 pound bows, the 17-8 will work well with 55-65# bows. I used to use the heavy 18-8 shafts with my old 75# compound bow. They are fairly heavy shafts, and tough as well.

Many thanks to Horney Toad & raghorn; both provided excellent information on these arrows. Thanks very much to both of you.

FYI:

"The arrows he has are made by Gordon and the Gordon name for them was Aspen Gold. They are fiberglass with lengthwise dark lines which are carbon fibers. A great shaft that got a bad rap due to operator error.I killed a bear with these in 1985 so that will give you an idea of the year.
The 17-6 is like a 2016 and the 17-8 is like a 2018. As with any arrow...after a hard hit-front or a side slap- the shaft should be inspected and tapped against tree or such. If a a buzzing or rattling sound is heard check for- loose tip, nock, feather. Look for side bruising then bend the shaft at the bruise. Fiberglass is very tough, but side hits are tough on any material".
