Bear Kodiak ll

This will be my first post although I have been reading this Trad forum for a long time.
I recently acquired a very nice 1954 Kodiak ll.
I wish I could figure out how to post pictures but have been unable to make photobucket work for me.

My question???

My Kodiak ll has a walnut riser which I understand was only used for a few months in 1954.
(Any information about the walnut riser would be appreciated)
The odd thing about this bow is the compass has been installed on the opposite side of the leather grip than all others I have seen.
Being a right hand shooter, as you are holding the bow the compass is on the right side of the grip ( where the finger tips of your left hand lay )
All pictures I have seen of this model show the compass (under the palm) of a right handed shooter.
Would this have been a special order or was there any reason for the compass to be installed on either side.

I have three Kodiak II bows including a walnut handle model. The compass is under the palm of the left hand while holding each of them.

All the ones I have had-more than a few have all had the compass under the palm as Jack described. I think the installer was sniffing too much Fullerplast that day.

Good to hear some response from you guys.
Still cant get that photo bucket to work for me but if you would like to see pictures I can email them.

Notice the ll after Kodiak.
The word Kodiak is a decal while the ll was hand written.
Any more information from these pictures will be appreciated.

that is a very early K-2 AA06 ? I'd say one of the first well the 6th anyhow.Most Bear exp models do not have a serial number on them.And yes they did hand paint the brown hash marks after the word Kodiak on the very earliest bows.As for the compass on the right yes there are a few of those around but thats a somewhat rare bird you have there bd
