New addition at Raptor cant identify
« on: March 17, 2011, 05:39:00 PM »
Boy this one has me stumped, anyone know anything about Lane custom bows?
The bow is 62" long and pulls 56#@28" and says on the bow Lane Custom Bow on the bottom limb.
On the top limb it says Custom built for Bill Hunt.
The bow looks 60s era with white glass on the belly and brown on the back. This is a wild design no doubt.

Not real sure I want to shoot it Chuck , feel free to come on out and string it up, just go outside before you pull it back.
Looks to me that the elbow in the fadeout would have tons of stress on it!

Don't you have a brother-in-law?

"Hey Jimbo, while you're here I have a new bow I'd like your opinion on . . . "

I'm no bowsmith, but it does appear to go against normal practice.

Let us know how it shoots.  You may have rediscovered a lost breakthrough!

I would not shoot that bow. If it was 10 pounds less I would think about it. At 56 pounds I would be afraid of turning a rare collectable into kindling. It is up to you, but you better get your safety glasses out when you string it.

I wouldn't be scared to shoot it at all particularly since the area in question is reinforced and the limbs have such recurve through the whole limb it should bend very evenly. Jim

Good one Killie. Details, we need details. We do have a couple of makers buiklding bows today that hve a riser design very close to that, but SMALLER. Saluki has been at it for years. Like I said Ted,It should stay together.

Sorry , not going to shoot it, probably will be fine but I have plenty of other bows to shoot.
If you could see the close up of the grain at the fade outs you would agree, pretty scary and I dont like wearing bows.
Just wanted to find out what I could as this one is one I havent heard of and neither had Fred Anderson , Gail Martin, Larry Hatfield and several others.
Just thought it was worth the longshot that someone may know a hint that will lead us on.
Most likely a part time bowyer from the 60s but since it hangs here in the store I would love to know a bit of the history, I purchased it just because of the novelty of it.
