I do have to admit the dogleg Kodiak's look fabulous. I may have to pick one up one day.

actualy the only problem with any of the 1963's mags was that a 250 pound man would step thru the short mag to use the step thru stringing and bam they broke the bow by twisting it to far with their butt cheek in the sight window pushing the bow sideways.I'am sure some of them did break do to failure in workmenship and or materials.
About 80% of the broken bows were broken at the arrow rest arrow shelf joint.It was during the stringing up or unstringing when they broke.I have a customer that owns a 1963 mag type 1 that he's killed countless critters with since he bought the bow new in 1963.I've taken several deer with my 63 Kodiak and it shoots as good as any bow on the market today.The 1963's are all great shooting bows hope this helps you decide on which model you want bd

I may have an extra 63' Type II Griz laying around. Sold my extra 63' Kodiak a few weeks ago so can't help you there.

Wow. Now that all the pics are posted I have to share mine. Of all my classic Kodiaks, my 64 is the quietest, my 59 is the prettiest, and this 63 shoots the best.

Here is my one and only Dogleg. A type 1 Mag. The last time I posted this, Wade came on with a bunch of them. Nice looking bows. I would like to find a nice Kodiak Dogleg someday. I hear they are very nice shooting bows!!!

I've got a Kodiak 45#, that is the smoothest and quietest bow I have. And, I'm thinking about parting with it. I hate seeing them hanging on the wall and not flinging arrows.

More of the same opinions; I think the '63 was the most under-appreciated Kodiak from the 60s and the '58 the same from the 50s. I have two 55# dogleg Kodiaks(well, the factory camo one is marked 54#), and they give up nothing at all to any '64 or '62 I've ever shot. Gotta say, the dogleg riser didn't win me over - I mean, it's like Bear's "Edsel" shoved in between the elegant '59-62 risers and the '64 K. (an old family friend of ours actually designed the Edsel so we have a special connection to a unique, different design that found a special group of admirers after having been disrespected for decades!) But, as you all have indicated, the dogleg Kodiak was falsely accused and will win over nearly any archer who gives one a chance!! There isn't a Bear bow on my wall that will outshoot my doglegs. Like you, Mullet, I'm wrestling with letting one go, and it's just darned hard to do!
