I had this up on the pow wow as well, Thought I would run it over here to see what you all had to say.
I talked with Larry and Grant Whiffen at the pbs gathering this past weekend. What a couple of nice guys, and a storehouse of archery knowledge.
the fletchng jig is cool, what do you think of that?
Also they made or had made for them a line of bows that I know nothing about. The one I looked at this weeknd was very nice and looked like a Howatt. Larry said that Howatt had made some bows for them.
So, Lets have so Whiffen archery talk. Please.

I first met Larry in 1974. He's one of the most genuinely nice people on the planet! Their family's contribution to archery and bowhunting is remarkable!

I just got back from Denton and with about 6 million things on the trade blanket, I did not see one Whiffen jig or anything else. i did get some feathers tho and will start fletching my shafts this week with the JR.

I have a scrapbook that belonged to A.J. Henning of Milwaukee, Wisconsin with photos of the 1936 Wisconsin State Tournament. There are four photos of L.C. Wiffen. One of him standing beside his car with Wiffen in large letters above a target painted on the passenger door. He is holding and showing off two bows and two quivers.

Another of him on the line with caption, "A "54" End at 100 yds."

The third is L.C. flight shooting with caption, "322 yds., 90# osage bow."

The fourth and last is L.C. standing on the line observing Don Ruenzel shooting flight.

There are two photos of Bruce Robertson, noted fight archer and bowyer, who shot 533 yds in the Midwestern at Chicago on July 4th/5th, 1936, free style.

W. Hartje C. Kleist are also identified in photos.

I may be using some of these photos in an upcoming article and don't want to post them on the internet at this time. Really, great photos from 1936.

Wow Cliff, That sounds great. Keep me/us posted on the article, we would love to read it and see them great pictures.

I thought I'd share a Whiffen Comet I recently picked up. I just completed refinishing it, it had several years of grime on it from storage. I really like it so far and plan on taking it to the woods with me this fall. I spoke with Larry Jr. and Grant last week and learned that Whiffen bows were made in the 50's and 60's by Eddings, Hoyt and Howatt with the majority being made by Howatt. My guess would be that this one would be a Howatt version. Larry Jr. has is info packed up for an upcoming move but I hope to pick his brain a bit more in a few months.

That Whiffin Comet bow of Jay's is absolutely wonderful. Great bubinga wood and the handle is one of the most comfortable I've had the pleasure to hold. I was really impressed with it when he showed it to me.

Your Whiffin Comet is a Hoyt ProHunter.

The bow looks great after your refinish work; congratulations on a great job on a great bow!

My go/to hunting bow is my Comet, 53#@28 58" C1071. I also believe was made by Howatt. Looks close to bow listed above. Black glass on front and back.
There not real fancy looking but, my favorite hunting bow. Great looking job on the face lift.

Warberg - We must have been typing at the same time. I see why you like this bow so well, I shot it a bunch yesterday and today and am really liking it, looking forward to spending some time in the woods with it.

Here's a neat little book written by Larry. Fairly easy to locate and a nice addition to either a Whiffen collection or a personal archery library......

I know this is a decade old thread, but I am a new owner of a Whiffen Galaxy bow. I have had a hard time finding any information online about them except this thread, so I thought I would share a few pictures of one for anyone still interested in such things. I admit I have never owned a bow before, I found this one in a local estate sale and was amazed with its look and quality. hopefully I can learn a few things and eventually get it back to use.
