New member and need help with bow ID
« on: September 30, 2011, 01:23:00 AM »
Hi all,

New guy here at TG. Wonderful place so far, lots of great info and kind folks. My kind of place!

Been shooting trad since I was a boy in the late 70's and just getting back into it after a decade hiatus.

The bow I'm asking about is one that I started out shooting with, as did my departed Mother (1945-2005) when she was a girl. She shot it growing up as did my uncles.

What I know:
Late 40's early 50's
Bought around Boston, MA
Green fiberglass on bely, white on back.

Only markings are the "S" burned in the riser the draw(mm)/weight "700-30#"

This is one of the special gifts that she gave me, not only the bow, but the love of archery.

Any help figuring out who made it would be welcome.

Thanks!!

It looks like a Ben Pearson or Locksley and I think the stamped S means it was a second. I have never seen a flaw on a S bow worthy of being a second. Stick a rest on it or shoot off of your hand and bring the hobby back to life. Jim

Thanks Jim!

I looked around on the web and the writing style for the "700-30#" matches some of the early Pearson's I've seen. Haven't quite found the exact model yet, but it's a start.

Hobby is fully back to life. I picked up a Brackenbury non typical and have been shooting the one pictured. I just took off the old grip I made when I was a kid and will be cleaning it up and getting it ready to go again for my son when he is big enough for it.

Really a special bow for me!

Its a Pearson Pony, as you've already figured it out.  Its most likely from the late 50's.

Already been answered, a Pearson. I have one just like it and it was my first bow. I traded a BB gun for it in the 60's.

Great history to that bow. Nice!
