My first old Bear, 1970 Super Kodoak
« on: December 12, 2011, 01:54:00 AM »
I've had many many bows ( more than I care to admit ) but none older than me, not even close! I've always thought I'd like to try a 1972, (the year I was born) Super Kodiak, Well I was looking on ---y and found many over a period of time. Then I came upon this one, not a 72 but a nice looking 1970, and it just called my name    :knothead:

So now I can tell the wife no new bows and I won't really be lying.

That's a pretty bow and a nice setup! Great one to start with but you'll now find you will not be happy until the next one arrives!

You chose a great one for your first one!

One of the double spring arm quivers would be appropriate on that Super K.

Thanks guys, the 4 arrow double spring arm is what I'm lookin for. I don't want to put any holes in this one, so that's gonna be  about my only option for Bear quivers.

Very nice!  My first old Bear was a '71 SK.  Great bow, but be prepared - if you're anything like me (and a bunch of other people around here)it doesn't end there  :rolleyes:

RLA;
You will need the 4 arrow leather top with the long arms. They will be 21 1/2" end to end. Or the 8 arrow ( which holds 5 arrows real nice) with the long upper arm. Possibly an 8 arrow with the medium upper arm and the (this rare) long lower arm.

I think it's a good shooting bow and very forgiving of the shooters mistakes. But I have to tell the truth, this is the first Bear I've had since my all glass Bear kid's bow.

But I've had some of the best custom bows out there, and must say, theres something magic about these old bows.

An all time classic and the year I was born.  My brother swears by the Super K and has brought down many a deer with them.

They are sweet bows no doubt! Since I posted this I have got a replica of the original strike plate Put on the '70 SK I have also sold a $1000 custom & picked up 3 more Bears! A mint '62 Grizzly,  mint '65 Kodiak & a nice '63 type 1 Grizzly that could be super nice with a re-finish!
I'm so hooked, can't see me ever shooting a non Grayling bow again ever...  The '62 Grizz already drew blood! Bears all the way man!

RLA,like you I have and had a lot of customs,but the good old Bears are not really far from them and they look to be smoother and quiter too.
Your 1970 is pretty similar to the 72 just without the stab insert!.
