My pal Dave just received this 52# 1967 Super Kodiak and discovered this crack above the sight window...

What is your advise?

Return the bow or Loc-Tite?

Hi Wade.
Donnie is the one to have a definitive answer for sure.

I have made an exact repair on the same bow years ago with loctite 420 with mild clamp pressure.
The bow is rock solid still.

If memory serves, I was advised by Donnie back then as well..........Philip

I remember a 66 kodiak that went for alot less that had about the same flaw. It had all ready been fixed. I like 67 SKs so I would probably keep it and know I payed alot for it.

Wade - I had the exact same thing on a '69.  I used some loctite one it (also suggested by Don) and have had no issues shooting it.

60" 52# 1967 and one half Super Kodiak the fastest shooting best shooting sleekest most beautiful black SOB to ever walk the walk ..... oh hell no Wade that will be to much draw weight for loctite 420 it will only hold up to 51#'s of draw weight do to tensel strength of said glue.Tell friend to send bow to Don and I will safely dispose of that thing for him OK ?
Alright its the holiday and I can't be my normal jerk wadd self and try to get em cheap.So yes yes its true Wade sorry about that...loctite 420 will make that one better faster stronger then ever before.
I would blow out that crack best I could with say maybe 40-60 pounds of compressed air.Then just slowly drizzle lt 420 into that gap until it gets somewhat flush with the surface.Kind of keep and eye on it as he will have to add a drop or two as it dries.The old injection with the syringe is best to use do to super good flow control you have on the lt 420 if you have syringes.However if he has no syringe to use use a thin wire.Place one end of the wire in or actualy right on top of the gap.Then hold the other end of the wire in his hand and then place the tip of the lt 420 about in the middle-ish but right againest the wire.The lt 420 do to its wicking ability will fallow the wire and wick right into the gap.
It should last a life time and then tell friend to send bow to Don and no not for me to work on it to have it.I love that model bud she's a nail driven machine right there bd

Don, this is the poor sap that bought the 67 1/2 and was glad no one was around when I started looking her over. It's not pretty to see a grown man cry. I've wanted one of these for over ten years but it was always one of those deals, I didn't have the money when one was availible or vise versa. Glad to hear lt 420 is a suitible choice for a repair. Will be seeing Wade at his place sometime this week, will bring bow with and start in on it. How long of a set time before I string her up for the first time?
PS. I was made in 67 1/2 but I'm not very fast or sleek.

Congratulations on your 7 1/2.
It is a great bow and has a HUGE fan base, myself included!

Hey guys, havn't had time to do anything with the bow yet but I did work with the lady that sold it and was able to get the price reduced because of the cracks and taking a chance on whether it's going to hold together or not. Will let you know when I get the repairs done as to how it does. Would still like to know how long of a cure time before I attempt to string it.

Dave I always and I mean always wait 24 hrs on loctite 420 that has been injected into a gap do to the fact the top of it will dry in about 30 secs or less.However the lt 420 that is way down in the gap is not getting exposed to the air like the exposed area does.Hence the 24 hrs no less now thats just how I like to do it.This is no bull shrimp I seen this dude fill a gap maybe bigger then yours in a 67 1/2 black beauty.It took more then half a syringe of lt 420 to fill the gap.He waited about 20 minutes to string the bow which was in the high 40's maybe 48 pound draw weight.No shrimp it held and that was in around 1998 and she's still rock solid today.So if your in a really big hurry go for it.Bowdoc don't ever get in a hurry when it comes to fixen bows.Again thats just me and how its done at bd's place ... bd
