Older Wally Miles selfbow help question!
« on: January 04, 2012, 07:23:00 PM »
Beautiful older rawhide backed yew bow from bowyer Wally Miles. Can it be fixed or is it now a wall hanger? Has actually been shot a while like this but now the backing is starting to lift and the crack getting worse. Hate to see this stout ole classic retired. Any Ideas?? Appreciate It.

Very interested in seeing what the verdict is on this one.

Loctite and wrap it with rawhide-not the prettiest but it would work.

Two very different perspectives from two very respected individuals. Thank You Michael and Bjorn! Have to think on this one before going ahead. Truly appreciate your input.

I would try fixing it. The crack should have been fixed when it was first noticed. What do they say, a stich in time saves nine. In bow talk it means saving the bow from breaking. Anyway good luck if you decide to try repairing it. That bow looks like it was a pain in the shoulder to shoot. To heavy for me.

Larry, when I saw the crack I completely missed the one in the white wood. Seeing it now my opinion has changed completely-I'd hang it up.

Steve
The guy who shoots it is a big guy and holds firmly at anchor with a 30" draw. Likes to shoot a 700 gn arrow and gets great cast. I agree it's a stout one but he shoots, or I should say shot it well. Bjorn thanks for the second opinion!

crystaliztion of yew wood is never good Larry and to prevent even more damage to that old beauty I would just hang it on the wall and enjoy.Thats a real gem right there bd
