What do you shoot out of your vintage bow?
« on: March 27, 2012, 10:52:00 PM »
What do you shoot out of your vintage bows?  I Shoot woods tipped with Bear Razorheads out of my '66 Kodiak.  Just wondering if you're shooting carbon wood or aluminum.

I used to shoot strictly cedar, but have dabbled with aluminum and carbon. Pick up some speed with carbons and alot of guys are shooting them. Some traditional shoots don't allow that though.

Mostly CE 150s, with the occasional cedar woodie. The CE Heritage are absolutely great carbons....and look pretty good as well.

I shoot CE 250's out of my Widow and my Morrison.  I have my woodies in a '60's spring arm quiver. I even found some new WWII camo for that little bit of "nastalgia". I even carry a western 648 knife, which i want to contract out someone to make a Bear Bowhunters Kit style sheath for it.

being born in '68, I feel like i missed out on something!!!!

when using carbons or aluminum, do you go a little underspined for what you would a modern bow of the same weight?

For 45-50# Bear bows, I love the 2114 aluminum.  I'm also a big fan of the CE Heritage 150 arrows which are very durable and look great.

Recently, I find myself returning to wood more and more.

Most of my old Bears are around  50#; so 55# Sweetlands work in most.

Most times cedar or poplar!

Typically I have been shooting Douglas Fir but also had some cedar shafts as well.  Most are full length and either 50-55 or 55-60.  Most of my bows are 45-50 lbs and I use 125-130 grn. tips.
