Bear Takedown Pawnshop Special
« on: April 08, 2012, 12:33:00 AM »
I'm a self admitted pawn shop rat. I've dumped countless dollars into what I though were great deals on guitars, bows, guns, almost anything that peaked my interest. I think lady luck may have finally smiled upon me with this one! I may be wrong, as I am no Bear expert, but I believe this to be a 1969 (Type 1) Bear Takedown A Riser. The condition is very good, except for some light scratches and two (very) small dings on the front of the riser. The Serial # is A-1673. If I am wrong on the date, or model of this please correct me, and if anyone has any information as to the rough value of this bow (I haven't managed to find any complete 69-70 A-Riser bows for sale) or just general information I would be very appreciative and excited to receive it.

All I know for sure is that it is a Grayling Takedown, the serial # A-1673, it is 45# draw, the limbs are serialized #1-1629, and it is a 56" bow with these limbs.

I can take more/clearer pictures if it would help in determining actual date, or value. I appreciate any and all help and information I get on this beautiful bow.

The other pictures didn't quite turn out, so I'll give it one more shot.

Just started looking for one myself. So there is hope! I'll be checking on this one to see what the experts tell ya. Nice find.
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

What you have there is what all serious Bear Collectors consider a "must have" in their collection.
It's kind of odd because PapaBear only used the longer B riser.
Your right in that it's a type 1 A riser. Offered first in the 1970 catalog. Value is hard to say these days as most things are selling below a few years back.
It will bring $1000 + on any given day but I would venture to say $1500. Limbs included always make for an easy and usually quick sale.
The handle looks beautiful in the photos and I congratulate you on a great pawnshop find.
Happy Easter.........Philip

Ha, Shane! That sounds just like me at the pawn shop the other day. I hate to admit this, but I didn't quite know what I was looking at when I made them an offer. It had a $125 price tag on it, and I told them I'd take it for no more than $100 out the door. I almost feel like going back and apologizing to them; but I guess they should have done their homework, right?

Excellent! It looks to be in great shape too, the a handles seem to be pretty popular. There also seem to be a lot of them popping up, kind of a lot for there only having been 400 made.

I want to thank Bumper. I am now the owner of this "pawn star", we struck up a deal that we both liked and I picked up this bow today. He somewhat understated the condition of this bow. It is a beauty, I am very proud to own it. Sir you are a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with. Have I said it's a real bute, how did it get in a pawn shop??

Redtail, I'm so glad you like the bow that much! I really hope you'll get everything out of it that you want, I'm sure it would be a great hunter, or just make a nice wallpiece, whichever you prefer! I don't believe I could have done business with a better person. I look forward to shooting with you sometime!
