Help with a Bear Tigercat and a Gordon Glass bow ??
« on: June 30, 2012, 11:49:00 PM »
SO here are the two bows I picked up this week. The Tigercat is in fantastic condition and a great shooter. I would love to know a little more about it if possible. I assume it is a '67, but is this "tigerwood" ??

The other bow I originally thought was made by Gordon Glass, but the sticker is partially missing and I could be wrong. It is marked as a "deluxe" and is 68''. It has 7 laminations and really surprised me with how well it shot.

any info would be great.

62" Tigercats are nice and smooth shooting bows. They were made in different woods, some with random glass colors. They were serialized from 1965 to 1969 with the first number being the year of manufacture. Some of the late 60s models were bubinga.

I am really excited about this bow. the lack of information about the model is surprising. Ill try to post some pics to see if anyone can help me identify it. Cant wait to take it stump shooting. thanks

I recently sold a nice 1967 Tigercat, 62", that was a very nice shooter. Unfortunately, it was next to some other very nice Bears I have and collected dust. But it was very quiet, shot great and I wouldn't hesitate to use one as a hunting bow. Shooting wise, it reminded me of a 59-62 Grizzly, although a plain jane version.

This bow is very neat, it looks like it has a birdseye maple type I-Beam, and quilted maple opposite the shelf side. very slick.

I think the Bear is Shedua and the Gordon is Myrtle with a really yellow Ibeam. Is it wood or could it be some glass or composite?

The I-Beam is a birdseye maple like wood. It has little swirls throughout it. But natural for sure. thanks for the info on the Bear. Were most bear models that year Shedua?

I have a 68 Tigercat and believe its one of my better shooting bear bows.

I know it has killed 2 deer by the original owner. the zebra wood looks good also.

The Gordon bow is cool, dont know anything about it but like looking at it.

I agree, I have had a couple 64-65 grizzlys, and they were just a tad short. This 62'' Tigercat is really sweet.

The Gordon is beautiful!

In my opinion its incredibly difficult to beat the shooting characteristics of a 62" Bear bow.

Hello zippercurve;
  Sorry for the late reply, I was on vacation.  I believe you are correct on the Gordon;  judging by the part of the label I am guessing a "King".  Here is a link to some info about the company.  http://www.gordoncomposites.com/markets_archery.htm
