HELP!!! On the price of 2 bows
« on: September 06, 2012, 02:32:00 PM »
Friend told me he has 2 bows that he will sell me but he won't price them because they are old. He hunted with them years ago and moved down here from Michigan and has them put up and now thought that I would be interested in them. I am interested but don't know what to offer because (1) don't know that much about the bows (2) He's a friend and I want to be fair with him. One is a Red Wing recurve and the other is a Darton recurve. That's all I know  because I haven't seen them yet. Any info on these 2 bows will be very helpful.

The "experts" will need more info with pictures even better.  With so many models of Red Wings and Dartons out there, knowing the condition, weight, year made, etc. would be critical in coming up with a fair value.  Many of us check the big auction site for another source.

Sight unseen I would not pay more than 100 for both. Post some pics, models and specs if you want a definitive answer.

The Red Wing, I have no idea about as I have never purchased or even shot one of them.  I have purchased a hand full of Dartons that are 80% or better condition and paid $75-$90 each. They aren't exactly in demand as a collector item but are super for introducing new folks to archery.  From time to time I will sell very cheaply or give a bow to a newbie just to get them started in our sport.  Take a look and try to identify them, then do some research on the internet.  It's surprising what information is out there.

I feel it's always easier to force the seller to set a price.  Then they can't be unhappy with the deal regardless of how far off they were.

I paid $65.00 for a 54 Kodiak once at a Trapper's convention. The guy did not have it priced and wanted me to price it for him.  I asked him how much would make him happy.  As it turned out we were both happy with that figure.
